A Survey of Clergy Opinion on Mormonism

Scott Gordon and Dennis Egget, Ph.D.

This study is the result of trying to determine the answers to three questions:

  1. What do the various clergy think about the LDS, and does it vary between denominations?
  2. What sources do the clergy use for their information on the LDS?
  3. Is there any difference of opinion between those clergy who live among the LDS and those that don’t?

To discover the answers, we mailed simple surveys to 430 clergy in California and Utah. Based on the 95 responses received, we determined that there was no statistically significant difference of opinion between those in Utah and those in California. (This answered our third question.)

The answers to the first two questions were very interesting. You can find out detailed information on each by clicking on the questions, above.
