It's feasible that one man could lie for personal gain, or just be plain crazy. But there were several other witnesses to various events in the early church.
If Joseph Smith was hallucinating:
a) The witnesses would also have to be hallucinating. b) He would have to be crazy, yet sane enough to invent such elaborate, consistent, and lengthy prose as the Book of Mormon.
If Joseph was lying, he would have to:
a) Die for his lie. b) Convince several people to continue to lie on his behalf, for their entire life, even after some left the church. c) Have others die for his lie.
