Daniel T. Ellsworth
Writer · Researcher · Biblical Studies
Daniel T. Ellsworth is a Latter-day Saint writer and independent researcher with a particular interest in biblical studies, scripture interpretation, and the relationship between faith and academic approaches to scripture.
Ellsworth earned a BA in international studies from Brigham Young University and works professionally as a technology consultant. Alongside his professional career, he has pursued extensive study of the Bible and Latter-day Saint scripture, with particular attention to Isaiah, biblical authorship, historical-critical scholarship, and the assumptions scholars and believers bring to the interpretation of sacred texts.
His published work includes “Their Imperfect Best: Isaianic Authorship from an LDS Perspective,” which examines scholarly approaches to the composition and authorship of Isaiah and considers how Latter-day Saints can engage those approaches while taking Restoration scripture and prophetic revelation seriously. He has also written about faith, belief, and religious community.
At FAIR’s 2025 Virtual Conference, Ancient Truths for Modern Faith, Ellsworth presented “Defending the Old Testament: Ancient Israel’s Offering to the World.” His presentation explored what it means to defend the Old Testament from a Latter-day Saint perspective, emphasizing careful interpretation, awareness of underlying scholarly assumptions, and the enduring importance of revelation and prophetic authority.
Ellsworth’s work encourages believing readers to engage biblical scholarship thoughtfully while recognizing the role that worldview, methodology, and assumptions play in the conclusions we draw about scripture.
