Dr. Mark McGee is a Senior Historian in the Church History Department of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He studied history at Brigham Young University (BS), Utah State University (MA), and Arizona State University (PhD).

He has also trained at the Institute for the Editing of Historical Documents sponsored by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission of the National Archives and Records Administration. He served as the Senior Research and Review Editor for the Joseph Smith Papers Project, where he specialized in documentary editing methodology and document analysis.

Mark is a coeditor of several volumes of the Joseph Smith Papers; of Foundational Texts of Mormonism: Examining Major Early Sources (Oxford University Press, 2018); and of Producing Ancient Scripture: Joseph Smith’s Translation Projects in the Development of Mormon Christianity (University of Utah Press, 2020). He is also the author of several articles on Joseph Smith and early Mormon history published in various scholarly venues.
