DOCTRINE AND COVENANTS 49 – 50
The Family Proclamation teaches that happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of Jesus Christ. Families are designed to provide love, support, and a sense of belonging. Eternal progression is possible through the creation and nurturing of families.
When we walk in the light of Christ, we are able to discern truth from error and avoid spiritual pitfalls. The Holy Ghost acts as a guide and comforter, helping us make righteous choices and resist temptation.
The scriptures teach that Christ is the light of the world. As we follow Him, we receive increased understanding and clarity. Our faith strengthens, and we experience greater peace and confidence in God’s plan for us.
Seeking the Lord’s guidance through prayer and scripture study allows couples and families to receive divine help. When challenges arise, trusting in the Lord strengthens marital and family bonds and brings peace.
The doctrine of marriage and family as central to God’s plan has been taught throughout biblical history, but it was reinforced in modern times through revelations to prophets and the issuance of “The Family: A Proclamation to the World” in 1995.
