René Krywult
Media Literacy • Comparative Theology • Early Christianity
René Alexander Krywult is a native of Vienna, Austria, and has been involved with FAIR for more than two decades. He played an instrumental role in establishing FAIR’s German-speaking outreach and has contributed to the organization’s efforts to provide thoughtful, well-documented responses to questions about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
A software developer and project manager by profession, René has a longstanding interest in religious apologetics, particularly comparisons between Latter-day Saint beliefs, traditional Christianity, and the teachings of early Christians. His interest in responding to criticism of the Church began when he encountered anti-Latter-day Saint literature as a teenager. Since then, he has focused on evaluating the reliability of religious information and helping others strengthen their faith while engaging with challenging questions.
René’s published work includes “Mormon Deification Compared to Orthodox Christian Theosis,” which appeared in Spirituality in East and West. He has also written for FAIR and organized four FAIR conferences in Germany between 2009 and 2015, speaking at each of them. He presented at the 2019 FAIR Conference in the United States and at FAIR’s 2024 European lecture series in Salzburg.
He has served in numerous Church callings, including ward Sunday School president, ward mission leader, elders quorum president, seminary and institute teacher, and counselor in a bishopric.
René and his wife, Gabriele, have four children and, as reported in his 2024 FAIR biography, five grandchildren.
