Barbara is coming down the stairs in her bathrobe. Young boy: These men are here to see you. Barbara: Bishop Devry. Bishop: This is Lowell Davis, President of the Sandy Central Stake. Stake President: How do you do? Barbara: Uh, how can I help you? Bishop: We’d like to talk to you for a few minutes. Is this a bad time?	It is absurd for a Bishop and a Stake President to show up unannounced at the home of a long-time inactive member, enter the home and interview her without her husband present while she is wearing her bathrobe.
Stake President: So you haven’t tithed in seven years? Barbara: Yes. No, I mean, we’re not tithing. We’re inactive.	It is obvious that the family is inactive. Why in the world would a Stake President begin a conversation by asking about tithing?
Stake President: May we ask why? Barbara: We…my husband and I went through a difficult time. Um, I was very ill. Bishop: I remember. We tried to support you in every way we knew how with love and prayer and home teachers. Barbara: Well, it meant the world to me. I was so grateful.	Every member of the ward has home teachers. This bishop talks like a caricature of a Latter-day Saint.
Bishop: Barb, we’ve known each other a long time. You were once a shining member of our church, so I’m just gonna ask you outright: Are you living in a polygamous relationship? Barbara: Yes. Bishop: I am so sorry to hear that. How did this come to pass?	The phrase "once a shining member of our church" is something that a real bishop would never say. A real bishop would refer to her as a member of the ward, and he would not refer to that in the past tense. It is completely inappropriate for these men to be conducting such an interview in someone's home. Recall that her children are at home. Has anyone ever used the phrase "come to pass" outside of reading the Book of Mormon? This sounds like someone is attempting to give the Bishop dialog that sounds "Mormon."
Barbara: My husband had a testimony. Bishop: I see. Did you? Barbara: No. No I didn’t…not at first. Bishop: But, do you now? Barbara: I think so. I don’t know. I don’t know.	The series constantly misuses the term "testimony." A real Latter-day Saint wouldn't understand what this testimony refers to at all.
Stake President: Sister Henrickson, I must tell you that we’ve come here to determine whether to call a Stake disciplinary council. Bishop: May I ask how many wives has Bill brought in to your marriage? Barbara: Two. There’s three of us.

Barbara's mother: I don't understand. Why are you being so insistent. I mean why do you want to go to the temple now? Barbara: Well why are you giving me the third degree? I just want to go. Mother: Yeah, but you're not worthy! You haven't tithed. You haven't been interviewed. I don't understand where this is all coming from. Barbara: Well, I'd have thought you would want this. Mother: Well of course I do...but the temple? Why don't I just take you to church instead? Barbara: I want to take my endowments. Mother: How do you propose to get in? Barbara: One of you is going to lend me your temple recommend. Mother: Oh, no, no, no. I can't do that. We can't do that. And it was just a few years ago that we stopped promising to disembowel and slit throats to people who were monkeying around with temple rules and procedures. Barbara: Mother, you don't believe all that superstition. Mother: I don't need you to go telling me what I believe or don't believe. You'll get caught. Barbara: Cindy. Mother: Yes, why are you being so quiet. You, of all people. Cindy: I guess I'm just surprised is all. I didn't think this matter to you any more. Barbara: I does. My life is in crisis and I need to go. Mother: What does that mean. What's happening? Barbara: I just...I am begging you...as a sister and a daughter I am begging. Cindy: Don't beg. Barbara: Please.

Barbara's mother: This is just a little foretaste of what eternity will look like. This is what binds us to each other. Let's just sit for a moment and soak up this delicious feeling. Mother: Oh honey, what is it? Cindy: Mother, let her have her moment. Mother: What? Tell me. Barbara: I can't. Cindy: Mommy, why don't you just let her be? Barbara: The stake president has called me to love court. The other shoe is finally dropping. I'm facing disclipinary hearing tomorrow. Mother: Why didn't you tell us? Barbara: I was embarassed. I was so ashamed. Mother: Oh...oh no. I thought you were going to leave Bill. Oh...I can't bear this. Oh...I can't bear the thought of losing you. Cindy: Leave him. Barbara: Cindy. Cindy: You can stop. This is your chance to get away. Just say you're sorry and be repentant. Don't pursue the letter. (voice rising) I didn't mean it to come to this. I didn't. Barbara: (whispering) You didn't mean what to come to this?...Cindy, answer my question. (Cindy runs out of the room) Matron: I'm sorry, your fifteen minutes are up.

Barbara and her "sister wife" Margene are sitting in a room. The Bishop and Stake President are sitting at the head of the table. There are six other men in the room (eight men total), and the two women. Stake President: Well, let's begin. Are you taping this hearing? Barbara: No. SP: Let me ask you again, are you taping this hearing. Barbara: No, I am not. SP: Nothing in your purse? On your phone? Would you mind if we removed your bag from the room? Both women's purses are taken out of the room. Bishop: Have you had some time to pray and reflect upon your situation since we spoke? Barbara: I have. SP: Are you still upholding your temple covenants? Barbara: Yes, but my interpretation might conflict with yours. SP: Well, for example, are you wearing your garments? Barbara: President Davis, are you asking me to tell you what kind of underwear I have on? Bishop: OK, lets get back to the matter at hand. Barb, there's still an opportunity for you to find your way back to the Church. Will you repent? SP: You know that polygamy is a misguided abomination. It's a shameful practice that has no place in the modern Church. Barbara: Was this hearing requested directly from Church headquarters? Did you receive instruction? SP: I don't see how that's relevant to your decision to live in clear, open and deliberate opposition to the Church and to its leaders. Barbara: I believe this is not just about polygamy, but about a certain letter that my husband helped to purchase for the Church. I believe I am being punished for trying to bring to light the truth that letter exposed about the practice of "The Principle." SP: Sister Henrickson, as our Elder Packer has said before, we all know that there's the temptation to tell everything, whether its worthy, or faith promoting or not. Some things that are true are not very useful. Barbara: You openly disparage my family, but you hide the truth about our history, and that's the reason you don't want this hearing taped. Bishop: No Barb, we sincerely want to help you escape this life. Don't turn against us. Will you repent? Barbara: No. I love the Church. I love it more than I can say, but I believe the Church and its leaders are in grave error on polygamy, and on the kinds of marriages and families it creates. I can't forsake my family. Bishop: What will it serve you to have your family now when your eternal salvation is lost? Think about it Barb. Barbara: I have. SP: Barbara Dutton Henrickson, henceforth your name shall be removed from the records of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. You will not be allowed to partake of the sacrament. The sacred ordinances that bind you to your family, your ancestors, and your progenitors for all eternity are severed.
