The latest Olivewood fireside

May 16, 2008 by Keller

Last night I attended another in a wonderful series of firesides hosted by the Olivewood bookstore. Tyler Livingston was also there and took good notes, so I will refer everyone to here. The speaker used his knowledge of Mesoamerican languages and interpretations of murals, stela, and other Classic period art to draw intriguing parallels with various passages in the Book of Mormon.

I’ve heard of this bookstore. It’s right next to my parents’ house.

    Is it any good?

It is just over a mile and a half from my house.

I like it as a bookstore. It is a little small for rhe firesides they hold. They feature Maxwell Institute books but there are other scholarly works there as well. They usually have 20% off sales on selected book after the fireside. I would shop there before I would go to Deseret Book.

How can we find out about these things before they happen? I would love to go, and I have a friend who would love it even more.

    Austin,

The next event at Olivewood is June 19 with John Gee as the speaker. I would love to see you there.

Unfortunately I am in DC for the summer but I will pass it along to my friend who’s very interested in these sort of things, and when fall rolls around I’ll definitely try to make it to any similar events. Thanks!

I must add my praise of the lecture. It was great! I have never seen so many Mesoamerican points of connection with the Book of Mormon in one place. Very enlightening.

I’m becoming very impressed with these lectures. They are going to have to build a bigger bookstore if these crowds keep getting larger.
