Michael R. Ash, Latter-day Saint apologist, author, and FAIR Conference speaker

Michael R. Ash is a longtime Latter-day Saint apologist, author, and frequent FAIR Conference speaker. A member of FAIR since 2000, Mike has spent decades writing and speaking about questions, criticisms, and evidences relating to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Mike’s interest in apologetics began in the 1980s after encountering critical literature about the Church. He became active in online Latter-day Saint apologetics in 1990 and has since produced an extensive body of work. He has been featured in nearly 90 podcasts and 30 videos and has written more than 160 online articles. He previously wrote a weekly column for the Mormon Times, published by the Deseret News, and his articles have appeared in the Ensign, Sunstone, the Neal A. Maxwell Institute’s FARMS Review, and Dialogue: A Journal of Mormon Thought. He has also presented at numerous FAIR Conferences and at Sunstone Symposiums.

Mike is the author of four books: Shaken Faith Syndrome: Strengthening One’s Testimony in the Face of Criticism and Doubt, which has also been published in German and Italian; Of Faith and Reason: 80 Evidences Supporting the Prophet Joseph Smith; Bamboozled by the CES Letter: An Honest Response to the .pdf Pamphlet Entitled “Letter to a CES Director”; and Rethinking Revelation and the Human Element in Scripture: The Prophet’s Role as Creative Co-Author.

His other published contributions include the chapter “I Think, Therefore I Defend” in Perspectives on Mormon Theology: Apologetics. With Ugo Perego, he co-authored “The Apparent Genetic Discrepancy between Mormon’s Narrative and the Origin of Native Americans,” published in Steadfast in Defense of Faith: Essays in Honor of Daniel C. Peterson.

A lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mike has served in elders quorum presidencies and has taught priests, elders quorum, young single adult Gospel Doctrine, and general Gospel Doctrine classes. He is the father of three daughters and grandfather of three.
